Father's Day Full Throttle
Edmonton, AB - June 14-15, 2008

So race fans, we have another points race under our belt and despite Mother Natures attempt to rain us out again, we stuck it out 'till the bitter end. With ten cars attempting to enter an eight car field, the weather was the least of our worries. First round of qualifying was again very close, and those who didn't make the field were feeling the pressure of what the next round would bring. With an unexpected delay due to a lengthy oil down clean up, it was later than expected for our second round and the humidity destroyed the track conditions. We did our best just to put on a show for the fans and we were given another chance to qualify on Sunday morning.

With much improved conditions and warmer weather the next morning, our second qualifying round was exciting to say the least. Most cars ran in the 7.50's and to our amazement and pleasure of the quality of the show, Boychuk with a 7.70, which is a stout run on any day, didn't make the field. First round took out half of the field of course but mostly due to reaction times. The cars were so close that it was anyone's guess who would win and we had to wait for the light at the top end to verify. RAIN, RAIN, and a bit more RAIN delayed us for about three hours. The track officials knew they could bring back good conditions with warm weather and the sun coming out to dry the track. We ran second round just after 7 pm and with two more gone the final was something to look forward to. Nine p.m., sun shining and all IBAA members watching the final two came to the line for the win. Eddy Plaizier and Mattias Hane were neck and neck and what a finish. Mattias beat Eddy by a marginal amount with a 7.500 against Eddy's 7.493. We can't wait to see what happens at our next points race which is in Medicine Hat on August 2 & 3.
